Myth Busting: No, Period Sex Is Not Off Limits

Myth Busting: No, Period Sex Is Not Off Limits

There are many myths and Old Wives Tales about our periods, some more ridiculous than others, but when it comes to period sex being a no-go, you’re doing yourself a major disservice if you heed this lie.

Alright, so what’s the fuss? Why do people think sexy times during that time of the month is a bad idea? And just how false are these myths?

Myth: It’s a big mess.
Truth: If you prep for it (lay down a towel, etc.), you can easily deal with any potential “mess”. More importantly, blood can act as a natural lubricate, making period sex that much more enjoyable.

Myth: It will hurt.
Truth: Period sex can actually be even more pleasurable than at other times of the month. It can also soothe uncomfortable, harmful period symptoms like cramps and headaches.

Myth: There’s an increased risk of infection.
Truth: Not so much. While you will want to practice safe sex during your period (and always), there’s no clear evidence for any increased risk of getting a yeast infection if you have sex during your period.

Myth: It’ll make my period worse.
Truth: Sex on your period is not going to prolong your cycle. The stimulation can increase the number of contractions, allowing your body to expel period blood faster, thus (possibly) bringing the period to an early end.

Oh, and we’ve got some tips and trick on how to make period sex that much sexier.
